Dog Training Information

Properly training your dog is a responsibility of dog ownership. It is important to train your dog right away as a puppy, so you can avoid dealing with rude or destructive behavior from your four-legged friend. This article will give you some great tips about how to train your dog.

Don't ever ignore good behavior from your dog. If they do something good, even if you didn't ask them to do it, make sure that you reward them for it in some way. If you start to ignore them when they have done something desirable, then they will see no reason to keep doing it.

It is a simple task to teach a dog how to roll over, just be sure to keep some dog treats handy! The first step is to get the dog to lay down. The next step is to palm the treat and hold your hand beside your dog's head. Slowly raise the treat over your dog's head to the opposite side. He should then roll over while following the treat. While rolling, use your vocal command. Do not get mad if it takes several tries. Once they learn this particular trick, they will be popular at the dog park!

You want to begin your Dog Training as early as possible, but not too early. You want to wait until the dog is at least 49 days old before you begin trying to train them. But after that, you'll want to begin quickly so that your dog can learn while he's still adapting to his environment, and you don't have to undo behavior that he's already learned.

Make sure you're not reinforcing an undesirable behavior. You don't want to give your dog treats or special attention during training if they're not performing the task properly. If you do, then they'll think you're pleased and continue to do things the way they're doing them, and they won't improve.

If your dog barks and growls at strangers in your home, do this: leash your dog, make him sit, wait until his attention is on you, and hand the leash, in full view of the dog, to your guest. Then wait until the dog is calm again, with the guest giving commands as needed. This teaches the dog that your guest ranks above him in "the pack" and he must accept them. When the dog starts to react again, repeat the exercise.

Use food as a reward when training your dog. Many dogs will respond on a basic level to edibles. The reward of food will usually encourage them to continue on a food winning path. Vary the types of treats you get for your dog. Alternate fresh meat with packaged treats.

Calling your dog over to you then punishing him will teach him to fear you. Telling him he was bad or did wrong from a few feet away will definitely get your point across and the dog will understand your meaning without feeling threatened by you. Keep in mind the dog wants your approval and that alone will motivate him to do well.

Being a proactive pet owner is the first step in training your pooch. An owner who anticipates troublesome situations for their dog, and works to keep him away from those situations whenever possible, will have a better behaved animal. Extensive training will not be as necessary if you get to know your dog so you can anticipate his actions.

Only give commands you are prepared to follow through with, or the dog will learn that it is all right to ignore you. If you give the command to sit, the dog must sit immediately or you will enforce the command with a finger pushing down on the lower back. Never give a command and allow the dog to choose whether to obey you or not unless you want to let the dog be the one in charge.

As stated at the beginning of this article, it is important to train your dog. If he's not well-trained he may cause you and others a lot of trouble. Training your dog while he is young will avoid bad behavior in the future, when your dog is older and harder to train. Apply the tips from this article, and your pet will be loved by all!
