Dog Training Supplies

Training your dog is among the most important aspects of your pet's life. You will always be glad you trained the dog, because he or she will have a firm, clear identity within your household. The advice in this article will provide you with useful information on the importance of training, and how to go about it the right way.

Swatting or hitting your dog is not a good training method. If you attempt to train your dog in this manner, all you are teaching them is to be scared of you. Eventually, the dog will stop listening to voice commands, and will only respond to you raising your hand. Getting a dog's loyalty through fear is a mistake on the owner's part.

Training a dog is easier if the pet is neutered or spayed. Unless you are breeding the animal, taking the hormones out of the equation will greatly calm your pet. Without the constant rush of hormones, a dog is much more docile and receptive to a leader. This will also help control the pet population which is a win-win situation.

You may need to try different treats until you find what works for your pup. There are a lot of different dog treats on the market, but your dog has his own tastes and preferences just like everyone else. If a particular treat doesn't seem to get your dog motivated, try something else.

Throughout your dog's training program, continue to play with them as much as possible. Interacting through games and activities is one way to bond with your pet and relieve stress. Dogs respond much better to people they trust, so go out and throw a ball, play tug of war or just rub their belly.

Focus on your body language when training. Dogs respond much easier to non-verbal cues. Pay attention to how they respond to different actions and facial expressions that you make to learn what affect they have on them. Keep your words short and too the point and reinforce it with bodily actions.

Your friends and family, in most cases, are not dog trainers. While those around you may have advice and opinions on how you should handle your dog's training, it does not mean they are correct. This input may be well-meaning, however, you can ignore most of it if you have taken the time to do your homework.

Food and treats can be your ally in training your dog to seek out his crate. Allow your dog to find strategically placed bits of food and a few treats every once in awhile when he returns to his crate. He will make it a habit of checking the crate out more regularly just in case something else has miraculously appeared there.

Young puppies can be quickly potty trained by keeping them with you all the time and carefully observing their actions. When very young they might need to be taken outside as frequently as every hour! By carefully watching them you'll quickly learn how they act when they need to relieve themselves.

As you plan out your Dog Training sessions, focus on only teaching your pet one new skill at a time. Too many instructions and expectations can cause your dog to become confused and frustrated. You will achieve much better results if you work on one skill, achieve mastery and then move on.

Do not use shock collars and similar training devices. Most of the time these don't function as they should and can cost quite a bit of money. Also, shock collars and like devices are just not nice things to use. Trying things akin to this will only cause harm to your relationship with your dog.

As this article has demonstrated, Dog Training is a very wise use of your time and energy. An ill-behaved dog is destructive and a cause of stress for every family member; before long, he will be unwanted. Simply by following the advice provided in this article you can learn how to make the right decision and turn you rambunctious pup into a lovable pet.
